The story is of Kuldhara village, located 17 kilometers away from the Jaisalmer district headquarters in western Rajasthan. This village is known for its mysterious stories. It is said that one night 200 years ago, this entire village became empty. It is said that Kuldhara was under someone’s evil eye. This evil eye was not cast by a ghost, but by the Diwan of the state, Salam Singh. Diwan Salam Singh’s evil eye fell on a beautiful girl of the village. The Diwan was so crazy about that girl that he wanted to have her at any cost.
Kuldhara is known as a haunted village
Kuldhara has an ancient history and is also known as the ‘ghost village’ of Rajasthan. An old story about this village tells that in the 18th century, the residents of this village left their homes in the dark of the night. There were many reasons behind this mysterious incident, including water harvesting from other villages and economic pressure.
The whole village had become united to honor the girl
This fight between the Diwan and the villagers was now not only about the honour of a virgin girl but also about the self-respect of the village. A meeting of the Paliwal Brahmins was held at the village Chaupal and more than 5000 families decided to leave the state for their honour. After the village was emptied, Kuldhara changed its old character and got the status of a haunted village.

With time, the villages around Kuldhara were settled again. But Kuldhara could not be settled again.
